Time Out Says:
A recent addition to W8’s ample dining options, L Restaurant stands out from the crowd in several ways. The design, for a start, is unconventional. The narrow, glass-roofed dining room seems to have been constructed to fill a former back garden; the result is curious, but nevertheless classy and amenable. Cooking is outstanding. Though Spanish ingredients and techniques feature heavily, the menu is cosmopolitan in scope. If visiting for the first time, eschew the tapas and go for exquisite starters such as seared
scallops with apple and dandelion leaves, or tuna and veal carpaccio (you can hardly tell which is which) with a minted truffle dressing. Then on to magnificent mains like roast rump of lamb with spinach, leek and sun dried tomatoes or a particular highlight, a rich, irresistible bowl of zarzuela (fish stew). Best of all, perhaps, was a very grown-up crème brulee, the custard bursting with vanilla but, unusually, not too sweet in itself (leaving that to the caramel on top). As L demonstrates, sometimes it’s good to be different.
